Similarity Measures on Preference Structures, Part II: Utility Functions

چکیده
In previous work [8] we presented a casebased approach to eliciting and reasoning with preferences. A key issue in this approach is the definition of similarity between user preferences. We introduced the probabilistic distance as a measure of similarity on user preferences, and provided an algorithm to compute the distance between two partially specified value functions. This is for the case of decision making under certainty. In this paper we address the more challenging issue of computing the probabilistic distance in the case of decision making under uncertainty. We present algorithms to compute the probabilistic distance between two completely or partially specified utility functions. We demonstrate the use of this algorithm with a medical data set of partially specified patient preferences, where none of the other existing distance measures appear definable. Using this data set, we also demonstrate that the case-based approach to preference elicitation is applicable in domains with uncertainty.

Toward Case-Based Preference Elicitation: Similarity Measures on Preference Structures
While decision theory provides an appealing normative framework for representing rich preference structures, eliciting utility or value functions typically incurs a large cost. For many applications involving interactive systems this overhead precludes the use of formal decision-theoretic models of preference. Instead of performing elicitation in a vacuum, it would be useful if we could augment...

متن کاملA Study on Preference Orderings of Mathematical expectation, Expected Utility and Distorted Expectation
One of the challenges for decision-makers in insurance and finance is choosing the appropriate criteria for making decisions. Mathematical expectation, expected utility, and distorted expectation are the three most common measures in this area. In this article, we study these three criteria, and by providing some examples, we review and compare the decisions made by each measure.
متن کاملA revised Fuzzy - PROMETHEE method , using Fuzzy Distance and Similarity Measures
PROMETHEE refers to a collection of methods of ranking in the field of multi-criteria decision making. These methods are characterized by conceptual simplicity and practical applicability. However, the nature of phenomena involving decision-making in real world leads us to use fuzzy method of preference ranking. The most common criticism on mathematical ranking procedures is that they tend to d...
متن کاملApplication of PROMETHEE method for green supplier selection: a comparative result based on preference functions
The PROMETHEE is a significant method for evaluating alternatives with respect to criteria in multi-criteria decision-making problems. It is characterized by many types of preference functions that are used for assigning the differences between alternatives in judgements. This paper proposes a preference of green suppliers using the PROMETHEE under the usual criterion preference functions. Comp...
